Let us imagine that a pair of British officers are sharing a tent somewhere in the Mediterranean towards the end of the war, alongside their two Batmen, who are housed in their one man ‘pup tents’, on close call.
The first Batman, in a Tan coloured pup tent, has managed to ‘acquire’ one of the smaller sized ‘camp beds’, in efforts to gain a better night’s sleep. Next to his tent resides a spade and canvas water bucket, handy for the latrine!!
The officers appear to be having a much comfier time. Luxuriating in more space, they can enjoy better sleep on their ‘canvas bedsteads’, extending to the luxury of a canvas wash basin and bath, ready with clean towels and a new bar of issue soap. Both also benefit from superior ‘bed rolls’.
Enjoying the Spring sun, the officers have just finished, ahead of pay parade, a mid-morning cuppa, brewed on the smaller ‘tent heater’ and a smoke. Their swagger sticks and ‘smokes’ have been left on the table along with a private purchase RE forage cap hanging from the back of one of their folding camping chairs and a KFS set used to stir their brew.
Below the table awaits a larger Hurlock stove and some water ready to prepare a more substantial meal.
To the right sits the second batman’s chocolate coloured pup tent, alongside of which sits his purloined and highly prized ‘Whitley Bag’, waiting to be aired in the warming sun.
As the seasons begins don’t waste this chance to own original, rather than replica ‘tentage’ and associated camping equipment.
TTFN and ‘happy camping’.
